Following its 12th consecutive conference road series win, Grand Canyon stays in Texas for a two-game midweek series against No. 16 Texas Tech on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Lopes are looking to continue recent success against the Red Raiders, holding a four-game winning streak in the series with sweeps of midweek series in Lubbock in 2015 and in Phoenix in 2022.
Both games will be streamed on ESPN+.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW
- YOUNG ON THE BUMP:Â GCU junior right-hander Carter Young is scheduled to make a midweek start for the third straight week. A Freshman All-American in 2021, Young has posted back-to-back solid starts at UNLV and against Arizona State. In those outings, he's featured a 2.70 earned run average with 14 strikeouts and one walk in 10 innings of work. He faced the Red Raiders last year and struggled command issues with five walks but worked through the first four innings of a 9-4 Lopes win.
Â
- OFFENSE HEATING UP:Â The Lopes brought the offense with them to Texas, scoring 34 runs in their three-game series at Abilene Christian. That's the extension of back-to-back double-digit scoring efforts before the current road trip. GCU is hitting .371 in its last five games, bumping its season average to .308 to rank 30th nationally. The Lopes will face off against a fellow formidable offense, with Texas Tech hitting .321 to rank eighth nationally. GCU scored six runs in Sunday's extra-inning victory at Abilene Christian, ending a streak of four straight games with at least 10 runs which was the longest such stretch since April 2015.
Â
- LOPES AND RED RAIDERS: GCU is on a four-game win streak against Texas Tech dating back to 2015. Last year, the Lopes greeted the No. 4 Red Raiders with back-to-back victories at GCU Ballpark. At the time, fourth-ranked Texas Tech represented the highest ranked foe GCU had ever defeated. Since, GCU beat No. 2 Tennessee on the second day of the 2023 season. Rewinding the clock back to 2015 — the last time the Lopes were in Lubbock — GCU took two from the No. 21 Red Raiders. Lopes head coach Gregg Wallis was an assistant on the staff, assistant coach Paul Panaccione was GCU's shortstop and reached five times in the two games. The Lopes won 5-4 in 10 innings and 10-5 the next day.

SCOUTING
Per usual, Texas Tech is nationally ranked and has an elite offense. Following a 3-2 week, the Red Raiders jumped from No. 21 to No. 16 in the D1Baseball.com top-25 poll. Texas Tech ranks in the top 10 in batting average, walks, on-base percentage and scoring.
The Red Raiders have been busy travelers the last 10 days, going from Lubbock to Stanford to Oklahoma and back to Lubbock. That stretch included winning two of three against North Dakota State, splitting a midweek set at Stanford and winning two of three against Oklahoma.
In common opposition this year, the Lopes and Red Raiders have both played Gonzaga and New Mexico. Against the Bulldogs, Texas Tech went 4-0 over opening weekend while the Lopes went 2-0 in the second weekend. Against the Lobos, GCU won its lone meeting 11-8 while Texas Tech split two meetings.
