The Grand Canyon men's tennis team won their second straight game at home with a 4-2 win over Nebraska Omaha on Monday morning.

The Lopes (4-8) took the doubles point and prevailed in hard fought singles matches to improve to 3-1 at the GCU Tennis Facility.

In doubles the Lopes took the point with wins on the bottom courts. GCU freshman duo
Alfred Almasi and
Mattia Ghedin jumped out a 3-1 lead and held the advantage the rest of the way winning 6-2 to give the advantage. While sophomore
Martim Marujo and freshman
Paolo Rosati were locked in a tight battle at court one the Lopes held an early lead at court three. Sophomore
Jonathan Da Silva and junior
Wyatt Anderson got a crucial point to go up 5-4 and won the final game 6-4 to clinch the doubles point and the 1-0 GCU lead.

In singles Nebraska Omaha (8-6) battled back winning the first set at courts five and six which they parlayed into straight set wins to get their first two points of the match. The Lopes countered with first set wins at courts one, three and four. Da Silva prevailed in straight sets at the top court winning 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 while Almasi in the next court won 6-4, 6-2 to get GCU up 3-2.

With two matches left the Lopes needed to win just one to clinch the dual-match win. Marujo in his match at court two lost his first set 7-6 and was down 4-5 in the second set. The GCU sophomore won the next game to get it to 5-5 which gave Rosati the time he needed to clinch his court.

Rosati was in the third set up 5-3 after winning his first set 6-1 before dropping his second. The GCU freshman won the next game to clinch the win with a 6-3 third set win.

The Lopes will host Montana State next week on March 22 to wrap up the homestand. The match will start at 10 a.m.
