The Grand Canyon men's tennis team got back in the win column with a 6-1 win over Air Force on Sunday at the GCU Tennis Facility.
In their first match since Feb. 24 the Lopes (3-8) looked rested and focused winning the doubles point and taking five singles courts in the win.
In doubles the Lopes took the 1-0 lead with wins at the top and bottom court. Junior
Loic Van Zeggelaar and sophomore
Martim Marujo won 6-2 at the No. 1 court while sophomore
Jonathan Da Silva and junior
Wyatt Anderson won 6-3 at the No. 3 position.
Singles play was more of the same as the Lopes took the first set on five courts. Da Silva won easily at the top court with a 6-2, 6-1 win while Marujo won in straight sets at court two. Freshman
Alfred Almasi prevailed 7-5, 6-0 at No. 3 for his team leading fourth singles win of the season.
On the bottom courts both Van Zeggelaar and freshman
Mattia Ghedin prevailed in three sets. Van Zeggelaar won 7-6, 4-6, 11-9 while Ghedin took his first set 6-3 and won his third set tiebreaker 11-9.
The Lopes will be back in action on Monday morning against Nebraska Omaha at 9 a.m. at the GCU Tennis Facility.
