The new era of Grand Canyon women's tennis is in full swing and the future is bright when it comes to recruiting.

The Lopes and head coach
Katarina Adamovic received a vote for the first time in the 2023 Winter Recruiting Rankings from TennisRecruiting.net. The Lopes received four votes in the national list from 18 voters and are among some of the top tennis teams in the country including cross-town rival Arizona State and perennial NCAA Tournament participant UC Santa Barbara.
Â
"This upcoming recruiting class is going to change the landscape of GCU women's tennis," Adamovic said. "We are bringing top tier young women to this program. These are women who want to be the best, and they know this program and community can take them not only to the next level, but all the way to the top."
Â
The first commitment for Adamovic and the Lopes for 2023-24 is Valeriia Krokhotina who signed back in Novemeber. Krokhotina enters GCU with a high Universal Tennis Rating of 9.74 and has backed that up with singles titles at the International Tennis Federation G4 events in Tallinn, Estonia and Tampere, Finland this year. Valeriia is also strong in the classroom with a s a 5.0 GPA, the highest mark in the Russian school system, along with 30 diplomas of excellent studies.
Â
Krokhotina is just the first of new recruits set to join the Lopes this spring and upcoming summer.
Â
"I am just honored that these girls have trusted me to be a part of what will be their success," Adamovic added. "Adding this recruiting class to our already existing team will give us needed depth and I'm really looking forward for the future of our program."
Â
On the courts the Lopes are defending their WAC regular season title from last year, their fourth in six seasons. GCU will be in action this weekend at San Jose State and Santa Clara on Friday and Saturday.
