The Grand Canyon women's golf team will trade the desert sunshine for the ocean beach sunshine as it heads to Paradise Islands, Bahamas, to compete in the NCAA White Sands Invitational this weekend.
Â
The tournament is being hosted by Santa Clara with 11 competing teams, including Kansas State, Delaware, North Florida, Tulane, Charlotte, Troy, Tampa, Eastern Michigan and Eastern Kentucky.
Â
The Ocean Club Golf Course is a par-72, 6,415-yard course that is northeast of the capital city of Nassau on the Atlantis, Paradise Island oceanside peninsula. The course was designed by Tom Weiskopf and sits right on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean with ocean views on each hole.
Â
The tournament outside the United States is the Lopes' first since competing in the Hawkeye-El Tigre Invitational in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, March of 2019. The three-day event is the fourth of the season for GCU, who have had the best start to a fall season in the Division I era. GCU won the Timpanogos Collegiate Invitational in Orem, Utah, Sept. 12 and the Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational in Seattle, Wash., Oct. 29. It also placed fifth in the Couer d'Alene Resort Collegiate Invitational in Couer d'Alene, Idaho.
Â
The Lopes will field seniors
Carly Strole,
Constanza Guerrero,
Becca Tschetter, junior
Leighton Shosted and sophomore
Ryan Flynn. The five recently shot 2 over in Seattle with an 8 under final round to secure the win. That win marked the first time in program history it won two events during the fall campaign.
Â
GCU will begin the tournament at 8 a.m. EST/5 a.m. MST. Live results of the three day tournament can be found
