The Grand Canyon men's tennis team dropped its season-opening match 6-1 to Wichita State at home Friday.
The match, originally scheduled for Monday, was moved up to Friday because of rain in the forecast.
In doubles, the Lopes (0-1) dropped the point to the Shockers (1-0) with close losses on the bottom courts. At Court 2, GCU sophomore
Martim Marujo and freshman
William Alsterback pushed the Shockers duo to a tiebreaker but came up just short at 7-6 (7-5).
Meanwhile, at Court 3, GCU freshman
Alfred Almasi made his debut after just a couple weeks ago and partnered with fellow freshman
Paolo Rosati for a 7-5 loss.

Jonathan Da Silva were strong at the top court, winning 6-4 over Wichita State's Kristof Minarik and Alex Richards.
Up 1-0 heading into singles, the Shockers pressed their advantage by winning four first sets. All four of those were parlayed into straight-set wins for the Shockers to clinch the dual-match win.
At Court 5, Rosati picked up a three-set win in his collegiate debut. The GCU freshman from Rome, Italy, won the first set in a tiebreaker 7-6 (7-5) before dropping the second set in a close 6-4 battle. The third set was settled with a 10-point tiebreaker, where Rosati outlasted Wichita State's Luke Bracks 10-7 for the win.
The Lopes will have a quick turnaround as they head to Tucson on Saturday to face Arizona at 1 p.m.
