Adamovic tabbed to lead Lopes tennis

Former college tennis star was 2016 NCAA Tournament MVP
The Grand Canyon women's tennis program has its new leader, announcing the hiring of Katarina Adamovic as the ninth head coach in school history on Thursday. She will take the reins of a Lopes program that has won three consecutive WAC regular-season titles.
A top 20-ranked collegiate player at a perennial powerhouse, Adamovic had a decorated career at Oklahoma State and was the 2016 NCAA Tournament MVP. She brings experience as a three-year assistant coach at Cincinnati before spending one season as an assistant coach at Missouri.
"Katarina is a high-energy, dynamic rising star in the coaching world," GCU Vice President of Athletics Jamie Boggs said. "In addition to being one of the top collegiate players in the country as a student-athlete, she impressed us with her clear vision and plan for GCU to consistently win championships. She led her team to conference championships and national tournament success as a student-athlete, and we are excited for her to lead GCU to championships as our next head coach."
A four-time Big 12 All-Conference selection, Adamovic led Oklahoma State to back-to-back Big 12 Championships in 2016 and 2017.
A testament to her competitive fire and positive leadership, Adamovic drew the attention of the Oklahoma State women's basketball coaching staff at the end of her tennis career and awarded her with a scholarship for the 2017-18 season. The staff recognized the positive impact she could bring to the team culture as she put the finishing touches on her degree.
Adamovic appeared in three games on the hardwood that season and was a key off-the-court influence on a team that went 21-11 and won an NCAA tournament game.

"I am as much humbled as excited that they have entrusted me as head women's tennis coach at GCU. Our goal at GCU will be to develop student-athletes to become the best version of themselves as we chase conference and national titles together. I cannot wait to get started."
Adamovic will take over for former head coach Greg Prudhomme, who spent 15 seasons leading the GCU's men's and women's tennis programs. Adamovic will be the head coach of only the women's program with Derek Siddiqui being named as the new men's tennis head coach on Wednesday.
A native of Cacak, Serbia, Adamovic began her coaching career at Cincinnati as the assistant coach for the women's team from 2018-21. The Bearcats finished with winning records in her first two seasons on staff. The team advanced to the quarterfinals of the American Conference Tournament in 2018, the program's best finish in three seasons.
Adamovic comes to GCU after one season as the assistant coach for the Missouri women's tennis team. While on staff, the Tigers had their second-best finish in the SEC, one of the toughest conferences in the country.
Finishing her collegiate playing career with a record of 75-42 in singles and 91-23 in doubles, Adamovic's .789 doubles win percentage ranks No. 1 in Oklahoma State history since the school joined the Big 12 in 1996.
Adamovic was selected to the NCAA Singles Championships and had a breakout junior year in 2015 when she finished 32-3 in doubles and 23-11 in singles earning All-American honors. She also advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Singles Championships and finished at No. 17 in the ITA singles rankings.
In 2016, Adamovic led the Cowgirls to the NCAA National Championship match, ultimately finishing runner-up to Stanford. For her efforts, Adamovic was named the NCAA Tournament MVP and advanced to the Elite 8 in the NCAA Singles Championship.
In her youth career, Adamovic was a Serbian national champion in the seniors, U18, U16, U10 and junior divisions. She was ranked in the WTA in both singles and doubles.
Adamovic will take over a GCU women's tennis program that made its NCAA tournament debut in May 2021.
