'EWA BEACH, Hawai'i – The Grand Canyon women's golf team placed fifth at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational on Tuesday at Hoakalei Country Club in Hawai'i. All five Lopes finished in the top 40 with two scoring in the top 12.
Senior
Siripatsorn Patchana tied for sixth place at Hoakalei Country Club with a two-spot improvement from Monday's 36-holes. Fellow senior
Payton Fehringer struggled with an 8-over-par final round, dropping six spots to 12th.
Moving up three spots and matching her opening round score was
Carly Strole. The junior scored 4 over par in her final round and tied for 31st.
Sophomore
Constanza Guerrero fell one spot after her final round, finishing tied for 34th after a 6-over-par final round. The final Lope was
Alexis Linam, who fell three spots after scoring 6 above par in her final round to tie her at 37th.
Fehringer, Patchana enter final round in top 10
The Lopes improved immensely from the first round to the second round Monday, as they shot a combined 19 over par in round one and 5 over par in their second round of play.
All five Lopes finished in the top 35 with two of them being in the top 10. GCU senior Fehringer was the top scorer at 2 over par, putting her in a tie for sixth place. In two rounds, Fehringer totaled seven birdies with four coming in the second round. She carded the second-best second round of the tournament field.
Patchana ended the second round tied for eighth. Patchana jumped 21 spots from her opening round, as she shot 1 under par after totaling five birdies in her second round.
Guerrero finished the first day in 33rd after improving from her first round and scoring 10 over par on the day. Linam also improved from her first round as she jumped 14 spots after her first round to be tied for 34th with fellow Lopes player Strole.
The Lopes are back in action for the Red Rocks Invitational on March 19-20 at Oakcreek Country Club in Sedona, Ariz.
