SEDONA, Ariz. – The Grand Canyon women's golf team won its second tournament in three weeks and repeated as Red Rocks Invitational champions on Sunday.
After sharing the team title last year at Oakcreek Country Club, GCU took the team title outright this weekend by finishing the tournament at 1 over par. The Lopes outplayed a 19-team field, beating host Northern Arizona by six strokes with four Lopes finishing in the top 25 and two in the top four.
Lopes senior
Siripatsorn Patchana was the runner-up, finishing 4 below par and one stroke behind medalist Eliska Kocourkova of NAU. Patchana progressed as the tournament went on, shooting rounds of par, 1 below par and then 3 below par with the help of a final-round eagle.
Spain native
Constanza Guerrero, a GCU sophomore, took fourth place at 2 under par by rallying from a first-round 75 with rounds of 69 and 70. Her third round included a run of three consecutive birdies. Lopes senior
Alexis Linam finished 5 over par and tied for 17th while senior teammate
Payton Fehringer tied for 22nd place after opening the tournament with a 2-under-par round on Saturday.
The final Lope was senior
Madison Voisard, who finished tied for 42nd with a 13-over-par score. Voisard had her best round in the opening round as well, counting toward the team score with an even-par round.
The Lopes are back in action at next week's Wyoming Cowgirl Classic, starting Monday at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa.
