Grand Canyon continues a season-long six-game homestand, as the Lopes welcome in New Mexico State for a three-game series at Brazell Field at GCU Ballpark.

All three games of the series will be streamed on ESPN+.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW

CLEAN BASEBALL: For the first time since 2018, the Lopes' defense has put together four consecutive error-free baseball games. GCU did not commit an error in its three-game series at Sacramento State last weekend, and the Lopes also did not commit an error in Tuesday's midweek matchup with No. 15 Arizona. The Lopes feature a .973 fielding percentage.
ERA LEADER: The WAC's earned-run average leader wears a Lopes uniform. And he's a freshman. Saturday's probable starter Daniel Avitia features a sparkling 1.71 ERA to lead the conference. GCU's staff ERA is 4.00, ranking second in the conference. Impressively, in nine conference games, the Lopes have a 1.89 staff ERA.
HIT, HIT, HIT: Sophomore first baseman Elijah Buries is on a career-best 15-game hitting streak dating back to March 8. Should he continue his streak, he will match Ian Evans' 16-game hitting streak of 2018. Buries is also chasing Tom Lerouge's 17-game hit streak of 2017 and Chad De La Guerra's 24-game streak of 2015.

SCOUTING

New Mexico State opened 2022 with an 8-2 record over a home-heavy nonconference schedule. Since the Aggies' hot start, however, they have won two of their last 12 games including a 2-7 start in conference play.

The Lopes and Aggies will meet at least six times in 2022 after meeting five times last year. GCU swept a four-game set in Las Cruces and also claimed a game in the WAC Tournament in Mesa.

New Mexico State has flashed the power, checking in with a top-40 slugging percentage to date. Sophomore catcher Logan Gallina leads the Aggies offensively with a top-100 slugging percentage and a team-best .342 batting average.

WHAT'S NEXT?

GCU concludes the homestand with its final two-game midweek set of the season. No. 7 Texas Tech comes to GCU Ballpark for games on Tuesday at 6 p.m. and Wednesday at 2 p.m.
