The Grand Canyon women's tennis team earned their third WAC weekly honor of the young season with graduate student
Fabienne Schmidt being named WAC Women's Singles Player of the Week.
Â
Schmidt's two singles wins at the No. 2 position helped guide the Lopes to dual-match wins over UC Irvine and UC Riverside last weekend.
Â
Against UC Irivine, Schmidt came from behind against Jessica Tsukiji, dropping the first set 6-4 before winning the next two 6-3, 6-4. Her win was vital as the Lopes overcame a 2-0 deficit for the 4-3 victory.
Â
The Hillscheid, Germany, native wasn't done, as she picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win over UC Riverside's Natalie Shamma the following day. Schmidt's win was part of a 5-0 shutout by GCU, which improved to 18-3 all-time against the Highlanders.
Â
GCU will be back in action this weekend at Sacramento State on Saturday.
