Preseason poll ranks GCU at No. 22

Coaches place Lopes in Top 25 again after NCAA tournament season
The Grand Canyon men's soccer team ranks No. 22 nationally in the United Soccer Coaches' preseason poll that was announced on Wednesday.
GCU has been ranked nationally in three of the past four seasons, including last season's run to the NCAA tournament.
"I'm happy that our men's soccer program is being recognized as a nationally ranked program," Lopes head coach Leonard Griffin said. "We are motivated to push higher than these expectations."
The Lopes finished 8-2 last season, including an undefeated regular season and an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament. It was GCU's second NCAA tournament appearance in three seasons.
The regular season kicks off at home against Illinois-Chicago on Aug. 26.
The Lopes, returning All-America third-teamer Justin Rasmussen, WAC Freshman of the Year Maximilian Moeller and fellow All-WAC honorees Ariel Aguas and Esai Easley, follow the season opener with another home game against CSU Bakersfield on Aug. 29.
GCU's nonconference schedule includes consecutive road games against top-25 opponents: at No. 9 Washington on Sept. 3 and at No. 16 Oregon State on Sept. 6.
