GCU can clinch 2nd straight WAC regular season title with win

The Grand Canyon men's tennis team will have the opportunity to clinch their second straight WAC regular season championship on Saturday against Seattle U in a neutral site match at Edinburg, Texas.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW
- UTRGV OPT OUT: Along with playing Seattle U on Saturday the Lopes were scheduled to play UT Rio Grande Valley on Sunday in the final match of WAC play. But the Vaqueros opted out of the remainder of the season as the team only has three healthy players. So with just a win over Seattle U the Lopes can clinch a share of the regular season title with the winner of the Seattle U-New Mexico State match on Friday.
- WAC SINGLES HONOR: Last week freshman Jonathan Da Silva was named the WAC Singles Player of the Week for the first time in his career. Da Silva won three matches at the No. 4 and 5 positions against Idaho State and WAC opponents Chicago State and New Mexico State. His four wins on the season are tied for the team lead.
- REGULAR SEASON ENDS AT HOME: The Lopes will stay in Phoenix for the remainder of the regular season with two matches at the GCU Tennis Facility. GCU will host UC Riverside on April 13 before hosting Northern Arizona in the regular season finale on April 24. The WAC Tournament will begin the following week at New Mexico State from April 30-May 2.
SCOUTING
Seattle U has started WAC play at 2-0 with wins over UTRGV and Chicago State with close 4-3 scorelines. With the Vaqueros only having four healthy players against Seattle U the Redhawks won the doubles point at No. 1 and had default singles wins at Nos. 5 and 6. Emilio Monroy clinched the win at No. 4 after UTRGV had won at courts one through three in singles. Senior Lucas Cerbelli leads the team with a 4-11 record at the top three singles positions while also leading the team in doubles wins at five with partner Eli Ogilvy.WHAT'S NEXT
- GCU will host UC Riverside on April 13 at 11 a.m. at the GCU Tennis Facility.
