GCU to honor trio of players on Senior Day

The Grand Canyon men's tennis team will end the regular season at home against Northern Arizona on Saturday. The Lopes will honor three seniors on Senior Day before playing in their final match before the start of the WAC Tournament next week.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW
- SENIOR DAY: Prior to facing the Lumberjacks, the Lopes will honor seniors Valentin Lang, Freddie Grant and Justin Cvitanovic. The trio has combined for 118 singles wins and 89 doubles wins while also winning two WAC regular-season titles and earning an NCAA tournament appearance in 2019.
- BACK-TO-BACK CHAMPS: Last time out, the Lopes defeated Seattle U in a neutral-site match 6-1 to clinch their second straight WAC regular-season title. Because of a UT Rio Grande Valley opt-out, the Lopes will share the title with New Mexico State but GCU will be the top seed in next week's WAC Tournament.
- WAC TOURNAMENT LOOMS: The WAC Tournament, hosted by New Mexico State, will go through the top-seeded Lopes. GCU will face No. 4 seed Chicago State in the semifinals on May 1 with the hopes of reaching the finals on May 2. The Lopes are attempting to reach the NCAA tournament for the second straight time. Last year's NCAA tournament was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
SCOUTING
Northern Arizona last played a match on April 10 and had two consecutive matches against UC Irvine and Concordia Irvine canceled last weekend. The Lumberjacks have enjoyed an undefeated conference run and clinched the Big Sky's South Division with a 3-0 record.Freshman Maciej Ziomber leads NAU with an 8-4 record at Courts 3 to 6 this season. Meanwhile, Lumberjacks senior Chris Steele, a Phoenix native, is second on the team with a 6-6 singles record and has played at each of the top four courts this season. In doubles, Ziomber has partnered with junior Daniel Dillon to lead the team with a 6-2 record at No. 3.

- GCU will head to the WAC Tournament as the No. 1 seed and face Chicago State on May 1 in the semifinals.
