The No. 7 Grand Canyon men's volleyball team travels to Stanford for two matches this weekend after taking down USC at hom 3-0. The Lopes play the Cardinal at 8 p.m. on Friday and 6 p.m. on Saturday with the matches being live-streamed
here.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW
- RANKED: The Lopes have been ranked for eight straight weeks in the top 10 of the National Volleyball Association/American Volleyball Coaches Association Division I-II Men's Poll, checking in at No. 7 this week. GCU earned its highest ranking in program history at No. 6 on March 1 after defeating No. 1 BYU in three sets.
- PUTTING UP STATS: GCU is ranked in the top 10 nationally in six categories: second in assists per set (12.3), third in blocks per set (2.8), fourth in kills per set (13.3), sixth in hitting percentage (.317), eighth in aces per set (1.6) and ninth in attacks per set (28.9).
- MPSF HONORS: Sophomore outside hitter Christian Janke earned the Lopes' first weekly honor from the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. Janke was named Defensive Player of the Week after leading GCU in digs against No. 1 BYU.
SCOUTING
Stanford is seventh in the MPSF at 0-7. The Cardinal started the season with three straight losses to Pepperdine, two at home and one on the road. Stanford then traveled to UCLA, where their lost back-to-back 3-1 matches to the Bruins. In their last two matches, the Cardinal traveled to BYU where they dropped two matches in straight sets.
Stanford is led in kills by sophomore outside hitting Will Rottman, who has also recorded 22 digs, four kills and two aces this season.
The Cardinal finished last season 6-11, going 2-4 in the MPSF with wins over No. 7 UCLA and Concordia.
LAST TIME OUT
- GCU took down USC 3-0 at home on Wednesday.
- The Lopes broke the program record for aces in a match with 13.
WHAT'S NEXT
- GCU travels to Pepperdine for three matches March 26-28.
