Lopes back in action after layoff

The Grand Canyon men's tennis team is back in action this weekend with a road match against Sacramento State. The Lopes have haven't played since Feb. 3 against Arizona State while having the next four matches against UC Irvine and UC Riverside postponed.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW

HOME OPENER UP NEXT: With the team's originally scheduled home opener against UC Riverside on Feb. 15 and 16 being postponed the Lopes will now turn to a midweek match against New Mexico on Feb. 24 for their first chance to play in front of fans at the GCU Tennis Facility. GCU last played a home match 389 days ago.
LOOKING FOR DOUBLES SUCCESS: One of the key factors for the Lopes the remainder of the season will be the ability to secure the doubles point, something that has yet to happen this season. So far this year only Jiri Novak and Valentin Lang have won in doubles, defeating Montana's top pair on Jan. 23.
PERFECT RECORD: GCU feels confident going into the match against Sacramento State boasting a 4-0 record all-time. The Lopes swept the Hornets 4-0 in their last meeting on March 8, 2019.

SCOUTING

Sacramento State began the season in February and will play their first seven matches of the season at home. The Hornets lost their first two matches to San Francisco and Cal Poly but regrouped with a 4-3 win over Nevada on Thursday.

As a team the Hornets are 4-11 in singles with Hermont Legaspi owning a 1-1 record at the top position. In doubles Sacramento State have only won the point against San Francisco in the season opener.

GCU will host New Mexico on Feb. 24 at 12 p.m at the GCU Tennis Facility.
