HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo.
– The Grand Canyon women's golf team tied for fourth place Sunday in the 16-team Ron Moore Intercollegiate over the weekend. GCU matched host Denver at 2 over par, trailing champion Cal Poly and runner-up East Tennessee State and missing host Denver by one stroke for third place.
Five Lopes cracked the top 33 with senior
Siripatsorn Patchana tying for ninth place by shooting 3 under par in her final round of play on Sunday. Patachana finished her best round of the tournament, sinking six birdies at the Highlands Ranch Golf Club. GCU sophomore
Lani Luafalealo shot 1 under par in her final round and tied for 13th.
Lopes senior
Payton Fehringer tied for 20th by matching her best score of the weekend with an even-par 72 to end the weekend at 2 over par.
Sophomores Constanaza Guerrero and
Carly Strole had their best rounds of the weekend on Sunday and tied for 28th. Guerrero made three birdies and ended with an even-par 72 while Strole, entered as an individual, made two birdies for a 2-under-par round.
Phoenix native
Alexis Linam was the final Lope involved in team scoring in Colorado, where she matched her first-round score with a 3-over-par final round.
GCU stays in top 5 after 2 rounds
After two rounds of play, the GCU women's golf team is 6 over par and is in the top five out of 15 teams, along with East Tennessee State, Cal Poly, Denver and San Francisco.
Luafalealo is the top scorer for the Lopes, as she is tied for 12th after shooting 2 over par and is even thus far in the Ron Moore Intercollegiate.
After shooting a 75 in her second round at the Highlands Ranch Golf Club, Patchana is 1 over par in her two rounds and tied for 19th. Fehringer rounds out the top 25 for the Lopes after a 2-over-par second round.
Guerrero shot her best round of the weekend with a 73 and is a combined 3 over par, tying her for 33rd.
Strole is playing as an independent for the Lopes. After her second round, she is 5 over par and finds herself in 40th.
Linam had a rough outing for her second round, putting her at 12 over par and in a tie for 72nd.
Lopes trio makes way to top 20
GCU finished the first day of the 72-hole Ron Moore Intercollegiate in third place behind the host team Denver by one stroke and ETSU at the top with an impressive 17 under par.
Three Lopes players found a spot in the top 20 entering the second round at Highlands Ranch Golf Club. Patchana and Luafalealo both shot two under par for a score of 70 and to be tied for 10th. Patchana and Luaflealo totaled four birdies in their first round of the Invite.
Fehringer is sitting in 19th after finishing the day with an even score of 72. Fehringer had a team best five birdies in her first round.
Strole is playing as an independent this weekend. After her first round of play she is tied for 34th and is one over par after shooting two birdies.
Competing in her first tournament of the season Guerrero is tied for 43rd after shooting two over par. The final Lope, Linam, finished the day three over par with one birdie and tied at 53th.
GCU is back in action on Oct. 24-26 as it competes in the Clash at Boulder Creek in Nevada.
