Lopes host first-ever matchup with the Bengals

The Grand Canyon women's basketball team added a nonconference game against Idaho State after nearly two weeks without a game. This will be the first ever meeting between the Lopes and Bengals.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW

Lopes in the top 25: The Lopes rank No. 1 in the country for opponent turnovers (26.91) and turnover margin (11.18), No. 2 in total steals per game (15.3) and rank No. 23 in points per game (79.8).
Conference leaders: The 9-2 Lopes lead the conference in multiple team and individual stat categories including points per game, steals per game, turnover margin, opponent turnovers per game and offensive rebounds per game (15). Freshman Katie Scott leads the WAC with 18.9 points per game. Sophomore Taylor Caldwell leads the conference with 3.55 steals per game, ranked No. 6 nationally followed by junior Laura Piera's 3.27 steals per game, which ranks at No. 10 in the country.
Making history: Katie Scott made WAC history by becoming the first player in 31 years to earn WAC Player of the Week three consecutive times.

SCOUTING

Idaho State is off to its best start in program history at 12-1 and currently sits at the top of the Big Sky Conference with a 10-0 conference record.
The two Bengals averaging double-digit points include redshirt-senior Dora Goles (13.5) and sophomore Diaba Konate (12.2).
Graduate student Estefania Ors has tied the all-time school record with 182 career three-pointers.
The Bengals are coming off of a sweep over Big Sky foe Portland State.

LAST TIME OUT

GCU split its first WAC series against New Mexico State.
After falling in the first game, the Lopes came out on top 61-52 in game two.
Sophomore Tavia Rowell put up 17 points and made a career-high four three-pointers.
Piera and Scott joined Rowell with double-digit points in the win over the Aggies.

WHAT'S NEXT

GCU's upcoming WAC series against Tarleton was moved for a second time. The Lopes and Texans will meet on Monday, Feb. 1, and Tuesday, Feb. 2, with both games tipping off at 6 p.m. The two teams were scheduled to open conference play in early January before an initial postponement to Feb. 9-10 that is now Feb. 1-2.
