Four GCU student-athletes in addition to the Lopes men's and women's track and field teams were honored with All-Academic Awards by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, as announced on Thursday.Â

Grant Carpenter and
Niki Xydona earned the awards after impressive finishes at the WAC Indoor Track and Field Championship. Carpenter cruised his way to his third heptathlon win in a row at WAC Championships, and Xydona repeated as champion in the pentathon. She also placed second in the long jump, third in the high jump and sixth in the 60-meter hurdles, which paved the way to her crowning of WAC Women's Outstanding Field Athlete.Â

Madelyn Lundberg and
Alyson Schwartz also earned the USTFCCCA All-Academic Awards. Schwartz repeated as champion in pole vault at WAC Championships with Lundberg finishing in second place. Â

In order to qualify for the award, student-athletes must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.25, completed at least two semesters at the nominating institution and finished the season ranked in the top 96 in any championship individual event or in the top 48 in any championship relay for the most recent season.Â

The GCU men's and women's track and field teams earned the team awards, which require a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. The women's team posted a 3.34 GPA, and the men's team posted a 3.11Â GPA.Â
