For the first time in his career, GCU men's and women's tennis head coach
Greg Prudhomme was named Alex Gordon Tennis Professional of the Year by the Southwest Professional Tennis Association.
The annual award recognizes a member who, over a calendar year, has demonstrated exemplary achievement in seven areas, including: U.S. Professional Tennis Association, allied organizations, clubs, career development, volunteerism, coaching and playing.
"It is a real honor to have simply been nominated for this award so I am very humbled to have been chosen as the USPTA Southwest Pro of the Year," Prudhomme said. "As a college coach for GCU and having been in the tennis industry for over 25 years, I strive to be an ambassador of the game and to set a good example in the same way that other great pros have done for me. This award is a symbol that I might be, in some way, on the right track. More importantly, it motivates me to continue to work hard to be a strong role model as a professional in the tennis industry on and off the court."
Over the past calendar year, Prudhomme led GCU men's tennis team to its first WAC Tournament championship and NCAA tournament appearance. He also served as the USPTA Southwest Head Tester and co-hosted the 2019 SWPTA Division Conference at GCU.
While completing his doctoral degree at GCU in Performance Psychology, Prudhomme hit the 25-year mark as the head professional at Paseo Racquet Center in Glendale. Prudhomme also spoke at multiple coaching conferences and was involved in community outreach with the GCU tennis teams at local clubs.
This award joins many others in Prudhomme's trophy cabinet, including four USPTA Southwest Coach of the Year awards and four WAC Coach of the Year honors. On a national level, Prudhomme was named the Steve Wilkinson USPTA National College Coach of the Year in 2018, becoming the first GCU coach to win the award.
