The Grand Canyon men's soccer team announced the signing of local product Logan Guertin on Friday. The center back from nearby Surprise will play for the Lopes this fall.
"Logan is another local player who truly knows our program very well and can't wait to represent his community wearing a GCU jersey," GCU head coach
Schellas Hyndman said. "For the last few seasons, he has not missed many of our home games and has been at many of our camps. Over time, he simply became a familiar face. Growing up, Logan has always been part of the successful teams and we know he brings a competitive edge and winning mentality to our team.
"He is a very versatile defender with great athletic attributes and a strong base to build on. With adaptation to the speed of the collegiate game that most players go through, we have no doubt Logan will become an important contributing member of our team and continue to be a great advocate of our program on and off the field."
Guertin helped lead his club team, Valparaiso United FC, claim the under-16 national championship in 2016, becoming the first Arizona club in 23 years to do so. He competed for one high school soccer season at Peoria Sunrise Mountain, scoring 17 goals with 13 assists in 19 games as a center back. He concluded his youth career playing for SC Del Sol for the last three seasons.
"Growing up in Arizona, I followed GCU's soccer program as a fan," Guertin said. "Going to the games and seeing record crowds of 6,000 to 8,000 fans was truly incredible and inspiring. It's a dream come true to be able to join this program as a player and be part of the environment that Coach Schellas has worked very hard to build within the team over the past years. I'm excited to continue to grow as a player and a person, on and off the field, while pushing to make the program the best it's been."
