The 2019 home schedule wraps for the Grand Canyon baseball team with the Lopes in the heat of a five-team race for first in the WAC. GCU hosts Northern Colorado for a three-game set at GCU Ballpark.
GCU is one game back of a three-way tie for first place between Sacramento State, UT Rio Grande Valley and New Mexico State.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW
- SENIOR FAREWELL: GCU will honor eight seniors in the home finale on Sunday: Austin Bull, Tyler Wyatt, Pikai Winchester, Preston Pavlica, Marc Mumper, Dalton Chapman, Nick Ohanian and Josh Andrews. The eight have combined for 920 games played with Wyatt (194) and Bull (190) leading the way.
 - PERSISTENT PAVLICA: Senior outfielder Preston Pavlica has reached base in 21 consecutive games. It's the longest streak for a GCU player since Pavlica reached safely in 26 straight games (24 to end 2018, two to start 2019). Moving Pavlica to the ninth spot in the batting order has helped GCU lengthen its lineup, as the Lopes are 10-1 with him there. The senior is hitting .333 since March 29.
 - POWER PLAY: The Lopes continue their power display in 2019, hitting four more home runs last weekend. GCU has hit 47 this season, the most since 2000 (50). Sophomore Cuba Bess hit his 10th and 11th, tying Chad De La Guerra for the most by a Lope since GCU's return to Division I in 2014. The Lopes are tied for eighth in the nation with 112 doubles while also ranking in the top 40 in slugging percentage (.450), the highest mark since the 2007 season (.463).
SCOUTING
Northern Colorado is looking for its first WAC series win since opening conference play by taking two of three from Chicago State. UNC is the nation's worst fielding team with a .930 fielding percentage. While Northern Colorado ranks eighth in the WAC with its .251 batting average, the Bears do hit for some power, ranking fourth with a .387 slugging percentage. The Bears already got a glimpse of Brazell Field at GCU Ballpark in late February, playing three neutral-site games against Washington. Northern Colorado has qualified for the WAC Tournament in each of the last four seasons, including pulling off back-to-back upsets to go 2-2 in the tournament in 2017.
Last weekend, the Bears ended a six-game homestand with consecutive losses to Sacramento State. Northern Colorado had won the opener 8-6 to give itself a shot at a series upset, but fell 12-2 and 15-10 to the Hornets. UNC was defeated in midweek action by in-state foe Air Force 16-4 on Tuesday in Greeley.
Last year, GCU won two of three games in Greeley last year. The Lopes made quick work of the Bears in the series opener, winning 18-1 in seven innings. Jake Wong tossed six scoreless innings of one-hit baseball. GCU used a late-game home run by Ian Evans to win 9-6 in Game 2. The Lopes didn't score until the eighth in the finale, falling 7-4 for its first WAC loss.

WHAT'S NEXT
GCU wraps up the regular season with a four-game road trip. The Lopes begin with the final nonconference game at UC Riverside before finishing WAC play with three games at Sacramento State.Â
