Grand Canyon softball earned its second consecutive WAC weekly award in
Yessie Morrison, who was named this week's Pitcher of the Week.
Â
Morrison, a sophomore, helped the Lopes (11-8) go 4-1 in last weekend's Lopes Up Classic, hosted at GCU Softball Stadium. The Grand Terrace, Calif., native went 2-0 on the weekend, pitching two complete game shutouts in 14 innings.
Â
In her first win of the week against South Dakota, Morrison allowed only five hits in seven innings and tallied a strikeout.
Â
The sophomore returned to the circle on Saturday, pitching a complete-game win against Iowa State. She struck out two batters and allowed only four hits to give the Lopes a 2-0 win over the Big 12 opponent.
Â
The WAC award marks the third of her career as Morrison (3-2) improved her season ERA to 1.05.
Â
GCU continues the season on Wednesday when it takes on No. 1 Florida State, the defending national champion, in a 5 p.m. doublehader at GCU Softball Stadium.Â
