HONOLULU — The Grand Canyon men's tennis team wrapped up a perfect weekend in Hawaii with a 7-0 sweep of Oral Roberts. The Lopes (10-5) won all but one match in their fourth shutout of the season.
"The guys played great for the second day in a row," GCU head coach
Greg Prudhomme said. "We were certainly the favorites going into the match but after a long 4-3 win yesterday it was good to see that the guys could bring the energy and good level of tennis today with the 7-0 sweep."
The Lopes only dropped one match all day at No. 3 doubles but took the point winning at the top two positions.
Mathieu Rajaonah and
Lorenzo Fucile clinched the point winning 6-4 at No. 1 after
Valentin Lang and
Jakub Novak won easily 6-1 at No. 2 as 6-1 for their tenth win this season.
In singles, the Lopes won all six matches in straight sets. The match was clinched by Grant winning 7-6, 6-0 at No. 5. Grego won his fifth in a row at No. 4 and now sits at 13-1 on the season. Novak won his third in a row at No. 6 taking the first set in tiebreakers and winning the second set 6-2.
"Definitely a good road trip and that will help them be prepared when we play in similar conditions when we go to the conference tournament down in south Texas," Prudhomme added.
The men will kick off WAC play in two weeks in Las Cruces, N.M., with three matches from March 29-31.
