The Grand Canyon men's tennis team put in a dominant performance against University of the Southwest (3-9), winning 7-0 on Wednesday at the GCU Tennis Facility.
The Lopes completed the sweep in a 90-mintue contest.
"Guys did a great job today," GCU head coach
Greg Prudhomme said. "We were certainly the strong favorites going into today's match but the guys did a good job of staying focused and sharp playing clean tennis getting on and off the courts quickly."
In doubles, the Lopes (11-5) won on all three courts to take the doubles point. Reigning WAC Doubles Players of the Week
Valentin Lang, a junior, and freshman
Jakub Novak won 6-1 at No. 2, and junior
Lorenzo Fucile and senior
Mathieu Rajaonah clinched the point at No. 1, winning 6-2. Sophomore
Freddie Grant and senior
Lucas Grego won 6-1 at No. 3 moments later.
In singles, the Lopes did not drop a game on five of six courts. With Rajaonah sitting out of the singles lineup, each player from the Nos. 3-6 positions moved up and
Leo Andreolli was inserted at No. 6 for his first match of the season. The redshirt sophomore from Brazil won 6-0, 6-0.
"It was great to see Leo get out there in his first live dual-match of the season and take care of business quickly, along with his teammates," Prudhomme added.
Lang, Grego, Grant and Novak also chimed in with 6-0, 6-0 wins and Fucile finished the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1.
The Lopes will enjoy the rest of the week off before getting ready for the start of WAC play on March 29 against Kansas City in Las Cruces, N.M.
