Grand Canyon men's soccer senior
Austin Day was selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 first team in honor of his performance in the classroom and on the field.
Day, a defender from Frisco, Texas, boasts a graduate school GPA of 3.91 after finishing his undergraduate degree with a 3.99 GPA last year.
"It feels good," Day said. "Being in my master's program has been a little more difficult. The core classes are a little more in-depth. It's nice to know I'm still able to stay on top of things and balance sports and academics. It really is important for me to do well in both."
Day competes in his final match as a Lope at home Sunday night against UNLV after competing in four seasons at GCU. He opened his career by playing 1,068 minutes as a freshman in 16 matches, including 10 starts, and recorded an assist. He continued contributing his sophomore year with 14 appearances and another assist. As a junior, Day was honored for his academic achievement, earning All-America third-team honors for his 4.0 GPA. This season, he has started all 16 matches for the Lopes, recording four assists.
"One of the reasons I picked GCU was that I could balance both sports and academics," Day said. "It's something that's meant a lot and with Senior Day this Saturday and my family getting to visit. It's nice to be able to enjoy all of that with them."
Day is pursuing his Master of Business Administration with an emphasis in finance after completing his undergraduate degree in business at GCU.
"I'm hoping to continue playing soccer somewhere," Day said. "I've just got to keep trying and figure out what the next step is."
