Grand Canyon sophomore defender
Esai Easley was named the WAC Athlete of the Month for September, the conference announced. This marks the second conference award for Easley in the month after he was named WAC Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 16.
Easley has started in all seven games for the Lopes, providing stability in the back line. The Kailua, Hawaii, native has played 598 minutes, recording a full 90-minute outing in four of the Lopes' six September matches, and a 110-minute effort in a double-overtime tie at UC Riverside. His efforts on defense have helped the Lopes to the No. 1 spot in the WAC in goals against average at 0.83.
GCU's defense has been the highlight of the team's season thus far. The Lopes have held five of seven opponents to five shots on goal or fewer and put up one of their strongest defensive performances in the conference opener against Incarnate Word, a 1-0 win in which GCU allowed only three shots with one on goal.
