Lopes compete at CSUN Invitational for 1st time
The Grand Canyon women's tennis team will wrap up the fall season at the CSUN Invitational in Northridge, Calif., from Nov. 9-11.
This will be the Lopes' first participation in this tournament.
The Lopes last competed at the GCU Invitational on Friday and Saturday, although no scores were officially recorded. The team competed at the Paseo Racquet Center in Glendale, Ariz., and played a mix of singles and doubles against Abilene Christian and Northern Arizona.
Earlier this month, the Lopes doubles pair of Emilia Occhipinti and Celia Morel were named the WAC Doubles Players of the Month for October. The two paired up at the Beach Tennis Tournament at Long Beach State last month. They opened the event with two losses in the top doubles flight but then defeated Portland State's Lotti Meszaros and Jacinta Milenkoski, 6-1, and Cal State Northridge's Skyla Alcon and Ana Toboso, 7-6, with a 5-0 tiebreaker.
GCU's Ludovica Infantino and Celina Buhr also have succeeded in the fall, sharing the team lead with four singles wins each.
