Coming off of a three-game sweep in the conference's opening weekend, the Grand Canyon baseball team returns to conference play after a brief mid-week matchup at No. 13 Arizona. The Lopes welcome in Northern Colorado for a three-game series pinning a pair of undefeated WAC teams against one another.

The Lopes opened WAC play with a three-game sweep over CSU Bakersfield in Phoenix last weekend. The Roadrunners entered the series with the conference's best record. In the opener, Tom Lerouge drove in all three of the Lopes' runs including a game-tying two-run homer in GCU's 3-2 win. Saturday and Sunday's victories were a little more comfortable, with Austin Bull and Tyler Wyatt providing the offensive highlights. GCU clinched the series with a 7-4 win on Saturday and capped off the sweep with an 8-3 win.

Bull went 8-for-15 on the week and drew seven walks. With an on-base percentage of .682 for the week, Bull won his first career WAC Hitter of the Week award. The switch-hitting sophomore leads GCU with a .388 batting average.

Northern Colorado themselves swept a WAC series, topping Sacramento State. The Bears pulled off a dramatic ninth-inning comeback in the finale to ensure the sweep. Northern Colorado used two six-run innings and a five-run inning over the course of the series.

A recent matchup at No. 13 Arizona only continued to improve GCU's strength of schedule. As a whole, Grand Canyon's strength of schedule ranks 12th in the nation with top-50 RPI opponents such as Oklahoma State, Long Beach State, New Mexico, Arizona and Arkansas littering the schedule. The nearest WAC school (CSU Bakersfield) has a strength of schedule of 88th.

The Lopes are looking to avenge a series sweep at the hands of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colo. a year ago.
