Two wins for the Lopes at the new GCU Tennis Facility

PHOENIX – The brand new GCU Tennis Facility is undefeated. Both the Grand Canyon men's and women's teams earned victories over Western New Mexico today in dual matches. The women swept the Mustangs 7-0 while the men won by a score of 6-1.

"It was great to start off our first duel match ever on the new home GCU tennis courts with a win for both the men's and women's teams," head coach Greg Prudhomme exclaimed. "They both did a great job. They started right off in doubles and got the doubles point, winning on all three courts for both men and women. We kept that momentum going through to singles. The girls, in particular, had really decisive scores on all of the courts."

All six GCU doubles pairs were victorious during the matches. For the women, Tatum Prudhomme, Alexandra Petrzalkova, Susan Baklini, Celina Buhr, Lana Rinaldi, and Emilia Occhipinti all swept their singles matches in two sets. The men nearly pulled off the same feat as Francois Musitelli, Adrian Legarreta, Lorenzo Fucile, Justin Cvitanovic, and Valentin Lang all won in two sets.

"We were certainly the favorites going into the match with Western New Mexico, but it's fun to reminisce about the battles we used to have with them when we were Division II," Prudhomme added. "It wasn't all that long ago so it's always a nice benchmark to see how far our programs have come over the last five, six years. This was a good way to break in the home courts and to get the teams comfortable."

The men will take a well-deserved rest this weekend while the women gear up for another home match tomorrow. GCU will seek its second straight win as it hosts Nevada – Reno at noon at the GCU Tennis Facility
