PHOENIX – Head coach Tom Flood and the Grand Canyon track & field program unveiled their 2018 schedule, featuring 13 regular season meets with WAC Championships and NCAA Championships on top of that. The team has the luxury of staying close to home with a total of five trips inside the state of Arizona with a short trip to Texas being the furthest trip this upcoming season.
"We are really excited about this year's schedule," Flood said. "It will prepare us to battle for several more Western Athletic Conference titles and the ability to qualify as many athletes as possible for the NCAA Championships."
The women have won every WAC Indoor Championship since joining the WAC and the men have two indoor titles since joining the WAC, with both coming in the past two season in 2016 and 2017.
"We will look to take advantage of competing against some of the top talent nationally at some of the biggest meets and nicest venues in the country," Flood added.
The Lopes will travel to two of the biggest relay meets of the year, the Texas Relays and the Mt. SAC Relays. Flood hopes that the advanced competition this season correlates to more titles and an abundance of athletes going to NCAA Championships.
The Lopes head to Northern Arizona and New Mexico six total times, three trips to each school, during the indoor season in preparation for their quest to sweep the WAC Indoor Championships for the third year in a row.
"This schedule will allow us to get the marks we need to compete at Conference and the NCAA's," added Flood.
GCU will compete one time on campus in an intrasquad meet on December 8 with events beginning at 3:30 p.m. out on the track by GCU Softball Stadium.
