PHOENIX - The GCU men's tennis team will begin its season by facing two ranked teams, the No. 8 UCLA Bruins and the No. 22 Baylor Bears. The Lopes will also compete against Incarnate Word this weekend. Grand Canyon will travel to Los Angeles on Wednesday, Jan. 18 to face the Bruins and then head to Waco, Texas for back-to-back matches with the Bears and the Cardinals on Friday and Saturday.

"The team is really excited to get a shot at two of the top teams in the country," head coach Greg Prudhomme stated. "We want to be one of the best teams in the country. Therefore, we have to play against the best teams in the country."Â
This schedule will be one of the toughest starts for any team in the nation. The Lopes will feature many new faces this season as the roster includes four freshmen. Senior Adrian Legarreta and sophomore Mathieu Rajaonah will be two of the top experienced players returning for GCU.
