PHOENIX – The GCU men's volleyball team hits the road again this weekend for two MIVA conference games against the Lindenwood Lions. The Lopes are 5-7 in the MIVA and only have four conference games remaining this season. Grand Canyon's overall record is 12-10.
Head coach Kris Dorn has led the Lions to 4-12 record this season. After finishing the 2015 season with a winning record, at 13-12, Lindenwood has struggled to string together wins this year. The team is 2-8 in MIVA play and is led by hitters Jake Duckworth and Ryan Moore. Both have tallied more than 150 kills this year and Moore is a native of Chandler, Ariz.
Last season, Lindenwood defeated GCU twice in Phoenix. The Friday night matchup went to four sets and the Saturday night contest took five sets. Each game was extremely competitive and the Lopes return the majority of players that participated in the matches.
One of the most notable returners for Grand Canyon is senior Gerrard Lipscombe. He leads the Lopes with 250 kills this season for a team-high average of 3.52/set. Outside hitter Shalev Saada is second on the team with 202 kills this season while middle hitter Ashton King has 126 kills, good for third most on the team.
Both contests will be held at the Robert F. Hyland Arena and begin at 5 p.m. The first match will be played on Friday, March 25 and the second will be on Saturday, March 26.
