LAS CRUCES, N.M. – In its third tournament of the fall, the Grand Canyon women's golf team placed eighth at the New Mexico State Aggie Invitational. Cracking the top-25 in the player leaderboard was
Charatta Thongbai finishing at +18 for the tournament to put her in 23rd place.
After shooting a 79 on the first day, Thongbai moved up 13 spots in the leaderboard with an impressive 75 to put her in a tie for 17th place. After shooting an 80 in the final round, Thongbai ended at +18 for the tournament for her highest finish of the season. Thongbai was exceptional on Par 3 holes, shooting +2 for the tournament, which was the fourth lowest score throughout the field.
Deanna Salvatori earned herself a top-40 finish placing 35th, shooting +24 over the course of three days. Salvatori was one of 17 players to shoot even or better on Par 5 holes for the tournament. Three spots below Salvatori was
Amy Ruelas,
Kylie Fong and
Brittany Holen in a tie for 38th place at +27. Out ouf the three GCU players that finished in 38th place, Fong posted the lowest round of the week as she shot a 76 in the first round of the tournament but struggled on the final day.
Leleaga Meredith rounded our GCU's squad and finished in 47th place at +30.
GCU does have a quick turnaround as they head to Seattle, Wash. to compete in the Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational, hosted by Western Athletic Conference member, Seattle U. Play begins on Monday, Oct. 10, at the Tacoma Country and Golf Club.
