SEATTLE – The Grand Canyon women's golf team faced its toughest competition this fall at the Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational, hosted by Seattle U. GCU had two players place in the top-40 as the Lopes finished in 14th place.
Deanna Salvatori was consistent in her play throughout the three rounds, shooting 77 in the first and final round with a 78 in the second round. Salvatori ended the tournament in a tie for 39th place along with fellow teammate
Kylie Fong. After a 79 in the first round, Fong improved every round in the tournament and on the final day Fong would shoot a 75, the lowest round from any GCU player at the tournament.
Amy Ruelas showed flashes of solid play throughout the tournament, tied for the lowest score in the first round from a GCU player, shooting 77 along with Salvatori. After struggling in the second round, Ruelas ended strong with a 76 in the final round, her lowest round of the tournament. Ruelas finished in a tie for 59th place.
Carolina Sandstrom shot her lowest round on the final day, ending the tournament with a 77 to put her in 73rd place while
Leleaga Meredith finished in a tie for 74th, just one stroke behind Sandstrom at +26.
GCU will compete in its final tournament of the fall on Nov. 1 when they travel to Hawaii to compete in the Rainbow Wahine Invitational.
