Lopes make it three wins in a row

POCATELLO, Id. – Make it three wins in-a-row for the Grand Canyon men's tennis team as they begin its two-match weekend in Pocatello, Idaho with a win against Idaho State. The Lopes won eight of the nine matches played against the Bengals to improve to 3-1 this season.

"The guys played a great match today," head coach Greg Prudhomme said. "It is always a challenge when you play at a high altitude and indoors and our guys responded. We got tested on a couple of courts today and we were able to pull out some great wins."

GCU couldn't have asked for a better start to the match, sweeping all three matches in doubles. Mathieu Ounanian and Mathieu Rajaonah picked up GCU's first win of the day on court three with a dominant 6-1 win. Clinching the point for the Lopes in doubles was reigning WAC Player of the Week, Mitch Maroscher, along with Adrian Legarreta on court two with a 6-2 win. Closing out doubles with a win was Felix Schueller and Alexander Roggenkamp on court one with a tight 7-6 (4-0) win.

GCU carried the momentum into singles as they won the first three matches finished in singles to clinch the match. Roggenkamp was the first lope to finish his match with a victory on court three. Roggenkamp defeated Bjorn Scheepbouwer in 6-2, 6-1 and Maroscher followed up on court one with a 6-1, 6-2 victory to put GCU up 3-0. Clinching the match for GCU was Rajaonah on court four with a 6-1, 6-4 win to give GCU its third victory of the season.

The winning didn't stop there as Legarreta picked up the 6-2, 6-1 win on court six and the final win of the day from GCU came from Schueller on court two with a three-set victory. Schueller dropped the first set over William Edin 7-6 but Schueller rallied in the final two sets to defeat Edin 7-6, 10-5 to close out the 6-1 victory.

GCU will close out the weekend tomorrow with a matchup against Utah State.
