The Antelopes, who are now 4-0 in extra-inning contests this season, improve to 31-22, 18-7 WAC and remain a half-game ahead of Seattle U in the conference standings. GCU can clinch the WAC regular-season title with a victory Saturday. The loss snaps the Hornets' eight-game winning streak and drops their record to 30-24, 16-10 WAC.
Mick Vorhof (5-0) remained perfect on the bump, throwing the final 2.1 innings for GCU, surrendering just one hit, while not allowing a run.
Jaren Drummond tossed two scoreless innings out of the pen for GCU in relief of starter
Andrew Naderer who went the first 6.1 innings, allowing just two runs.
"Andrew Naderer with just a gutsy performance today," said Stankiewicz. "He got us out of some early jams and did a great job of kicking and clawing his way through it and keeping us in it. Drummond did a great job and Mick came in and did a nice job too.
Chad De La Guerra, who drove in GCU's first two runs, finished 3-for-4 at the dish.
Garrison Schwartz and Mauseth each collected a pair of hits in five trips to the plate.
"Anytime you get a chance to play the last game of the year with something on the line, it's always something you look forward to," concluded Stankiewicz. "We will be ready to come out here tomorrow and get after it and see if we can't bring home a WAC title."
