The Grand Canyon baseball team fell 8-0 to Oklahoma State today at Reynolds Stadium in Stillwater, Okla.
The loss dropped the Antelopes to 11-9, the Cowboys improved to 13-6.
Andrew Naderer started for GCU today and was charged with the loss after allowing four runs (all earned) on five hits over 3.1 innings. Ironically, it was his second start of the series. Naderer started the first game of the series on Friday, a game that was halted after the first inning due to rain.
"Andrew coming back on two days rest gave us what he had," said head coach Andy Stankiewicz. "He probably just didn't have enough in the tank. We were asking a lot of him to come back on just two days' rest."
The Antelopes mustered just six hits today, with
David Walker collecting three of them.
Paul Panaccione,
Chad De La Guerra and
Ben Mauseth each had a hit.
The Cowboys opened their scoring with a run in the third. They busted things open with three runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth.
In addition to Naderer, GCU used four players out of the pen.
Travis Garcia-Perreira tossed 1.2 innings of scoreless relief.
"This is probably the best ball club we have faced in our two years at Division I," added Stankiewicz. "It is frustrating but a good lesson. We all have to get better, including the coaching staff and players. We will regroup as a team and get back at it. We knew this would be a tough stretch in our schedule and knew it wouldn't be easy. We need to get better as a team and we will."
GCU will now travel to UNLV for a single game at 3 p.m. (AZ) on Tuesday before returning home for the WAC series opener against North Dakota on Friday night at 6:30 p.m. (AZ). Go to
