PHOENIX – The Grand Canyon University men's and women's tennis team will compete in their only home event of the fall this weekend out at Paseo Racquet Center in Glendale, Ariz. The men's squad will have a set of matches on Nov. 5 against UC Irvine at 10 a.m. and against Southern Utah at 3 p.m. Both teams will compete in tournament play Nov. 6-8.
This past weekend, the GCU men's squad competed in the Larry Easley Memorial Classic in Las Vegas, Nev. Both
Felix Schueller and
Mitch Maroscher advanced to the quarterfinals of the first flight's singles draws while
Alexander Roggenkamp and
Meidy Chazeau each won their matches in the consolation semifinals of the second flight.
In doubles, Maroscher and Chazeau earned their way into the doubles semifinals where they fell to a pair from Oregon 8-4. In order to get there, they picked up an 8-5 win over UNLV and an 8-6 victory over Mesa Community College.
On the women's side, their last competition was the ITA Southwest Regionals.
Susan Baklini and
Tatum Prudhomme made their way into the top-16 against tough doubles competition. They earned strong wins over San Diego and Hawai'i, before falling to a duo from Pepperdine.
In singles, Prudhomme fell in close three-setter to Loyola Marymount's Andrea Crespo in the opening round, but was able to comeback and earn a slot in the consolation semifinal draws. She defeated players from San Diego State, Hawai'i, and Cal State Northridge. She fell in the semifinals to Michela Cappalano from Pepperdine.
Lana Macukat and
Lana Rinaldi also earned singles victories during the tournament to advance in the draws.
This Friday, both teams will begin the competition in the GCU Invite at 9:30 a.m., with the last matches of the day beginning at 3:30 p.m. On Saturday, the men will begin at 9 a.m., while the women will start at noon. Both teams will have their last matches at 1:30 p.m. The teams will wrap-up play on Sunday with the men playing their final round at 9:30 a.m. and the women beginning at 11 a.m.
