PHOENIX – The Grand Canyon University men's and women's tennis teams continue their season this weekend in California. The men's team will compete in the San Diego State Invite in San Diego, Calif., and the women's team will compete in the Long Beach State Invite in Long Beach, Calif.
At their last meet, the men's team competed in the New Mexico State Invite two weeks ago in Las Cruces, N.M., where they faced tough competition. They were led by
Mitch Maroscher in singles who advanced to the championship match in the first flight, falling in a three-set match.
Felix Schueller won the consolation finals over a player from Abilene Christian, while
Alexander Roggenkamp finished seventh and
Adrian Legarreta 13
th.
In doubles, Maroscher and Legarreta earned third in the first flight with a 4-1 record, while Schueller and Roggenkamp placed fifth.
The women's squad competed in the San Diego State Invite this past weekend. Despite rain cancelling the final day of the draws, the Lopes had a successful weekend in the tournament.
In doubles,
Lana Rinaldi and
Marie Deleval advanced to the second flight's championship match in doubles and would have taken on a team from UC Irvine. Both the remaining GCU pairs—
Tatum Prudhomme and
Susan Baklini, and
Alexandra Petrzalkova and
Kylie Waschuk—each made it to the quarterfinals of their flights.
In singles, Petrzalkova and Baklini each advanced to the consolation finals in the second and third flights, respectively. Deleval and Rinaldi both made it to the quarterfinals of the fourth flight.
