Grand Canyon women's basketball coach Trent May has announced the signing of California high school point guard Arin Perry.
The 5-10 Perry is from Cerritos, Calif., and played at Cypress High School. She was co-MVP of the Empire League and her team finished the 2013-14 season 24-4. An honor roll student, Perry was also on three all-tournament teams and was MVP of the Savanna Tournament. She was selected an Orange County Athlete of the Week as a junior.
This past season, she averaged 16.2 points per game, 6.3 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 2.1 steals.
"Arin is a welcomed addition to the program," said May. "She is a hardworking, driven and coachable individual. As an athletic point guard she can really push the pace. Defensively, she can defend baseline to baseline. We are excited to add Arin to the Lope family."
The Antelopes finished 21-9 in 2013-14, third in the Western Athletic Conference (10-6) and were invited to play in the Women's Basketball Invitational. Nine players graduated from last year's team, May's fourth straight post season club.
Perry joins a large recruiting class that includes signees, Devyn Edwards (5-8, G, Topeka, Kan.), Zelor Massaquoi (5-7, G, Fulton, Md.), Mikaehla Connor (5-9, G/F, McKinney, Tex.), Cheyenne Hedrington (5-10, F, Champaign, Ill.), Eliza Martinez (6-2, C, San Antonio, Tex.), Leticia Infante (6-0, F, Stockton, Calif.), Casey Rarrick (5-8, G, Scottsdale, Ariz.) and Katelyn Lee (6-3, C, Chickamauga, Ga.).
Australian 5-11 freshman guard Jessica Gajewski, who joined the team at the semester, and Courtney Hayes (5-6, G, Las Vegas, Nev.), a transfer from Louisiana Tech, will also be newcomers for the 2014-15 season.
