The Grand Canyon men and women continued their busy trip in Las Vegas, Nev., with the men playing two matches today and the women playing for the second time in as many days.
Against Seattle, the GCU men rallied from a point down after the doubles round to win 4-3 in their opening match of the day.
Nicolas Moulin (No. 1),
Felix Schueller (No. 4) and
Alexander Roggenkamp (No. 6) each cruised to straight-set wins.
Adrian Legarreta (No. 3) needed a second set tiebreaker to secure his win that helped clinch the match.
"The guys did a great job against Seattle in another close match," said head coach Greg Prudhomme. "We fell behind after dropping the doubles, but it is not the first time as the guys have battled back from this many times this season. We are very happy to be 4-0 against conference opponents, with one very important one left in New Mexico State later this season."
In the nightcap, the men swept Southern Utah 7-0. GCU dropped only 10 games over the nine matches and upped their season record to 9-4.
Moulin (No. 1),
Benjamin Collomb (No. 4) and Roggenkamp (No. 5) all won 6-0, 6-0.
Meidy Chazeau dropped only one game in his win at No. 6 singles.
"The guys got their second win of the day and produced their first 7-0 win of the season," added Prudhomme. "It was a great day for the program overall and we will keep the focus going as we look to leave Vegas on a winning note tomorrow."
The women had their second match in as many days, today coming away with a 6-1 win over Idaho State. They are now 8-5 this season.
The Antelopes started quickly, picking up the doubles point by sweeping all three matches.
Janaki Gunuganti and
Frederique Van de Velde upped their win streak to nine after an 8-4 win.
GCU took five of the six singles matches, which were highlighted by
Tatum Prudhomme and
Alexandra Petrzalkova running their winning streaks to three.
Priscilla Annoual won her No. 1 singles match by a 6-0, 6-0 mark.
"Much like yesterday, the girls put in a solid performance today," said Prudhomme. "They got up early in doubles and kept control going into the singles. As I expected, those tough matches last week in Hawai'i really sharpened the girls and they have shown some really good tennis over the last two days. The girls have one match left and it is with a conference team in Seattle, so they will be ready to go."
The men will wrap up play in Las Vegas tomorrow with a match with against Idaho State, while the women face off with Seattle.
