The Grand Canyon University men's and women's tennis teams ended their stays in Las Vegas with wins today, each finishing the weekend with 3-0 records.
The men defeated Idaho State 5-2 this morning and improved their overall record to 10-4. ISU fell to 2-8.
GCU won the doubles point as the No. 2 team of
Benjamin Collomb and
Alexander Roggenkamp and the No. 3 squad of
Meidy Chazeau and
Jacob Spizman earned victories. Collomb and Roggenkamp improved to 10-3 this season.
Adrian Legarreta picked up his fourth-straight singles win at the No. 3 position. Collomb battled from a set down at No. 5 to win his match 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
The women swept Seattle 7-0 this morning to move to 4-0 against Western Athletic Conference opponents and 9-5 overall. Seattle fell to 3-16.
The Antelopes dropped just 13 games in the six singles matches and 19 overall with the three doubles matches factored in.
Tatum Prudhomme and
Alexandra Petrzalkova ran their winning streaks to four with straight-set victories.
Janaki Gunuganti and
Frederique Van de Velde won for the 10
th-straight time in doubles play.
"We super happy to finish undefeated here in Vegas," said head coach Greg Prudhomme. "Like the men did yesterday, the ladies bumped up their record against conference opponents to 4-0. Both squads displayed great attitude and effort all weekend and you can see how far we have come as the result of the early season tough matches we played."
The men will be off until April 4, when they travel to Flagstaff to face Northern Arizona. The two were scheduled to play initially on March 17 in a match that was canceled due to wind. The women travel to Reno, Nev. for a pair of matches this weekend. They will square off with Nevada on March 29 and Colorado State on March 30.
