The Grand Canyon University men’s and women’s teams wrapped up their regular season with losses to BYU-Hawai’i yesterday in Laie, Hawai’i.
The 13
th-ranked men fell 5-2 to the 41
st-ranked Seasiders.
GCU fell behind 2-1 after the doubles round, with the No. 1 team of Saleem and Bal winning 8-6.
Alexander Roggenkamp improved to 15-3 this season with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles. Bal dropped a three-set match at No. 3 singles, winning 6-0 in the second set.
The 13
th-ranked women were defeated 6-0 by the fourth-ranked Seasiders, dropping all six singles matches.
Frederique Van de Velde had the most impressive match for the women, going three sets at No. 5 singles. She dropped the opening set 6-3, won the second by the same score, but fell 6-2 in the deciding set.
The two teams will remain in Hawaii and travel down the coast to Honolulu for the PacWest Championships that begin this Wednesday. The men earned the #4 seed and will open against #5 BYU-Hawai’i. The women are also seeded #4 and will face #5 Azusa Pacific.
