The Grand Canyon University tennis teams took to the court early this morning and both came away with wins at the Paseo Racquet Center in Glendale, Ariz.
The men, ranked 13
th in the nation and fourth in the west region, won 7-2. The win improved their overall record to 5-2 and snapped a two-game skid.
The women, ranked 13
th in D-II and third in the region, swept to a 9-0 win. The women improved to 8-1 this season.
“Both the men and women had great performances today,” said head coach Greg Prudhomme. “I was especially impressed with the women. We had two of our starters out of our lineup and we had great step up performances from
Jordan Bridges at No. 4,
Pauline Emin at 5 and
Kaila Knopf at 6. Pauline’s was a tough come-from-behind win. The men were impressive and I remember back when we were unable to beat CMU. The win today shows again how far the guys have come in such a short time.”
The men swept the doubles round and were able to secure four of six singles points.
Felix Schueller,
Alexander Roggenkamp and
Ramon Abaitua all picked up a pair of wins today. Abaitua won his No. 6 singles match 6-1, 6-1.
The women won 9-0 for the third straight match and fifth time this season.
Justine Majan won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles and is now a perfect 7-0 this season. She also teamed with
Priscilla Annoual to win 8-0 at No. 1 doubles.
The women will be back in action tomorrow when they travel to Tucson to face the University of Arizona at 2:30 p.m. The men will be back on the court on March 8 in Los Angeles when they play Fresno Pacific for the second time this season.
