Andrew Hunter made 11 seven in the final game of his collegiate career. Hunter was named the MCLA Defensive Player of the Year last week.
“Andrew did everything well for us in his time at GCU,” said head coach Manny Rapkin. “He saves the ball incredibly well and directs our defense. He can throw all of the breakout passes and handles the clear well. Those are the things that made him a leader for us this year.”
Fred Whistle once again dominated the faceoffs, winning 16 of 21.
GCU’s move into MCLA D-II has been met with positive results and has led them to their promotion to MCLA D-I next season. Arizona State, a national power, and the University of Arizona will be conference opponents for the ‘Lopes next season.
“It will be a big step up in competition,” said Rapkin. “We will be playing a tough schedule night in and night out next season. Every game will be a challenge and will carry huge postseason ramifications. The type of teams that we will play will elevate the level of excitement around the program. We will have an opportunity to play teams from the traditional Pac-12, Big Ten, and Big-12 conferences. We are looking forward to the challenges ahead and thank this group this year for getting us there.”
