The Grand Canyon University men's soccer team got goals from junior forward
Saeed Robinson (Portmore, Jamaica, Wolmers Boys School, Western Texas College) and freshman midfielder
Yared Solscheid (Eagle, ID, Eagle) to break open a tie game and beat Chaminade University, 3-1, in a Pacific West Conference matchup today at St. Louis Field in Honolulu, Hawai'i.
The Antelopes, who have won four PacWest championships in the five-year history of men's soccer in the conference, improved to 4-2-0 overall, 1-1-0 in the PacWest. The Silverswords dropped to 0-6-1, 0-3.
Chaminade got on the scoreboard first in the 22nd minute when freshman forward Max Gerwalt scored on a corner kick from freshman midfielder Kyle Withoft. It was the first goal of Gerwalt's college career.
GCU tied the game five minutes later when senior defender
Nick Sykes (Boise, ID, Mountain View) found the back of the net. The goal was unassisted and was his second this season.
The score remained tied until Robinson scored an unassisted goal with just 17 second left in the first half. It was the fifth goal and 10th point of the season for Robinson, a transfer from West Texas College.
Solscheid made the score 3-1 in the 78th minute. It was the first goal of his college career and it, too, was unassisted.
'Lopes senior goalkeeper
Adam Garcia (Avondale, AZ, Westview, Phoenix College, Gardner-Webb University), a transfer from Division-I Gardner Webb University, did not record any saves but got his fourth win of the season.
GCU had a 17-4 advantage in shots in the game, as well as a 10-1 edge in shots on goal.
The 'Lopes took five corner kicks; the Swords had two.
GCU Head Coach Petar Draksin played 18 players. Sophomore forward

Tony Valera (Phoenix, AZ, Raymond S. Kellis, Phoenix College) made their first career starts.
Withoft was issued the game's only yellow card in the 59th minute.
The 'Lopes' next game is on Monday, when they take on undefeated BYU-Hawai'i (5-0-0, 1-0-0) in Laie.
