Cal Poly Pomona scored four runs in the bottom of the second inning and went on to defeat Grand Canyon University, 7-4, in a non-conference baseball game today at Scolinos Field in Pomona, Calif.
The Antelopes fell to 18-18 overall. The Broncos improved to 20-11.
Both teams had nine hits. For GCU, senior outfielder Tyler Bair (Scottsdale, AZ/Coronado) went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored, and freshman third baseman Jackie Samora (Glendale, AZ/Apollo) was 2-for-4.
The 'Lopes scored one run in the top of the second inning, two in the fourth and one in the fifth.
Redshirt senior Colin Courtland (Litchfield Park, AZ/Millennium, Iowa Wesleyan) started for GCU and pitched 2 1/3 innings. He allowed two hits and one run, which was earned, and recorded two strikeouts.
Senior William Armijo (Phoenix, AZ/Paradise Valley) pitched one-third of an inning and gave up one hit and one run, which was earned.
Sophomore Cody Reppening (Gilbert, AZ/Gilbert) pitched the final two innings and allowed two hits and no runs, and had three strikeouts.
Courtland took the loss and is 2-3 on the season.
GCU next plays on April 15, when it has a doubleheader against Academy of Art in Oakland, Calif.
