Statement from GCU Vice President of Athletics Jamie Boggs
Following a comprehensive evaluation, we have determined a change in leadership is necessary to reestablish and sustain GCU as a nationally competitive baseball program.
We are grateful to Coach Wallis for his 13 years of service as both an assistant and then head coach. We thank him for his dedication and contributions to our student-athletes and the program throughout his time here.
GCU baseball has a proud tradition of excellence - highlighted by nine conference championships, top-25 rankings and NCAA Regional wins. Our history has yielded a standard we are fully committed to restoring quickly and decisively.
Our goal is clear: a rapid return to a top-25 program that delivers consistent conference championships and ultimately competes in Omaha.
GCU is committed to significant investment in all areas of our baseball program - including scholarships, roster capital, operations and personnel - to rapidly position our program as a national perennial power.
A thorough, aggressive and prayerful national search is already underway to identify the next leader of this great program.
As we look ahead, we ask Lope Nation to continue their unwavering support of our student-athletes and interim head coach Nathan Bannister as they pursue a conference championship this season.
