The Grand Canyon University men’s and women’s tennis teams both swept Roger Williams yesterday at the Paseo Racquet Center in Glendale, Ariz.
“Both GCU tennis teams did a great job taking care of business today,” said head coach Greg Prudhomme. “They stayed focused throughout the entire match and won quickly which will be a big help in tomorrow's early match against Mesa State.”
The women, ranked No. 15 in the nation and number No. 3 in the west region, defeated the Hawks, 9-0, improving their overall record to 10-2.
The women controlled the match throughout, dropping only 10 games in the nine matches contested.
The men, ranked No. 4 in the west region, also won 9-0, snapping a four-game losing streak and improving their overall record to 6-5.
In defeating the Hawks, the ‘Lopes dropped only 16 games their nine matches.
Grand Canyon returns to action Wednesday morning, with both the men and women squaring off against Mesa State. The Mavericks men's and women's teams are ranked No. 4 in the central region in the recently released Campbell/ITA College Tennis Rankings.
